Mobile phones were introduced in India in 1995, 25 years ago. The Central Department of Telecommunication is celebrating the Mobility Friday. Reliance Industries Limited Chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani said, “This is a milestone in the development of our country. It is a proud moment for all of us.
The launch of mobile connectivity in India in 1995 created a huge wave in the connected media. We have made many great new discoveries through technology right now. This is a dream come true. Mobile phones that made it possible for us to listen to stories. It would not have been possible 25 years ago to state that the state and the country could cross over and connect to each other via mobile. Mukesh Ambani said, “Mobile is now unlocking the world before us.”
Shifting from telephones to mobile phones was not easy. It took a long time for mobile phones to become an essential feature of everyone. The biggest quest is to be able to talk to anyone we want, anywhere, 24 hours a day. The shift from landline phones to mobiles has no doubt revolutionized growth.
Mobile service has changed a lot in these 25 years. Expensive mobiles have become more affordable to the masses. In 1995, it cost Rs 24 for 1 minute talk on mobile. Those who made the phone had to pay Rs 16. The cost was Rs 8 per receiver. It was expensive. But now, voice calls are fully free. Mukesh Ambani compares the old and the current changes to how long they are allowed to speak.
Mobile phones are no longer just talking. The Internet service provides video calling, bank service, recharge, TV and more. People are looking for entertainment, knowledge and information through mobile phones. Mobile has become an important part of everyday in people’s life. Mukesh Ambani said that mobile is functioning in all aspects of buying, news, watching videos, online payments, education related information, virtual meeting and many more.
Jio Mobile Network has also joined hands with Prime Minister’s Digital India concept. Jio offers its services in almost all parts of the country at very low prices. Jio, which launched 2G 3G and 4G, is now rolling out 5G services. Mukesh Ambani said there has been a lot of discovery and more research on this 25 years of journey.
